By now, you should have read up to Chapters 7 & 8. Your modern day fairy tales are also due today and I’m looking forward to reading your great writing.
For HW: read Chapters 9 & 10 and continue completing your response booklet.
An Elements of the Novel sheet was distributed today. Don’t lose it as we will be using it in the days to come.
Welcome to English 9
So, we are fully into the second week of classes. Check back here frequently as I will endeavour to keep updating things we’ve done in class along with due dates and such. Please remember that if you are missing handouts, you can probably find them on the English website: workmanenglish.weebly.com
By now, you should have handed in:
- signed class expectations sheet
- letter to Ms. W telling about yourself
- controversy/prejudice assignment
We did our first grammar quiz on nouns today and be prepared for a quiz on Chapters 1 – 6 (including vocabulary).
You should be up to Chapter 6 in your reading and make sure you are completing your response booklet as well!

Ok, ladies and gentlemen, it’s crunch time. There are only three more days of class and there’s still lots to do.
Today: Poster projects due:
Tomorrow: Short Stories Unit Exam
Went over the rules and what you can expect for the English 10 Provincial Exam which is at 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Thursday, June 23rd in the Large Gym unless you’re writing in an alternate setting. You will need a pencil, eraser and a pen. Bring water and kleenex if you’re sniffly. You are required to be there for at least an hour after the exam starts. Do not be late: you will not be allowed to write if you are later than 30 minutes.
Past provincials exams are available online through a link from my website. You have also been given a list of terms and definitions that you need to know.
Be ready for your Unit Exam on short stories tomorrow. It is on all 8 short stories that we have read. You will need to know the short story elements and terms along with the characters and general plot of the stories. The unit exam will include quotations from the stories and you will need to explain the significance of the quotation.
Friday, June 10th

GAME 3!!! #BRINGITHOME #CANUCKS #BELIEVE
Wondering why there is a number sign before these words? They’re called hash tags and are used in #twitter. Tweets with hashtags can be searched. So, yes, it’s a game day. So that means get your homework done in class so you can enjoy the game.
You have a quiz on the three stories assigned from Friday. After that, you will have some time to work on your paragraphs that are due for tomorrow.
Some things to think ahead to: another paragraph for Friday and then your poster project is due for Monday. Don’t forget that there is an unit test, too which will be on Tuesday, June 14th.
Let’s get working, peoples.
Friday, June 3rd
You have paragraphs due from the Manipulation and Control section of short stories. Please put into red box.
You have a quiz on “The Tell Tale Heart”. Notice that short story titles are always encased in quotation marks. This is an open book test which means you may refer to the text and your notes. However, it still doesn’t mean you can talk during a test.
Once you have completed quiz, hand in to red box and do the following:
Read:
“Choices”
“Forgiveness in Families”
“The Clumsy One”
Fill in graphs for each story and start thinking ahead to the paragraph answer for the Loyalty and Betrayal Section. This will be due on Tuesday next week.
Be prepared to answer questions on the above stories on Monday.
Thursday, June 2nd
We went over “The Tell Tale Heart” in class today. Be prepared for a quiz on vocabulary and general points of the story tomorrow in class.
Also, your paragraphs are due tomorrow.
GO CANUCKS!
Wednesday, June 1st
Yes, it’s June and we are almost done!
Today, we did a quiz on short story elements and your paragraph on questions #1, #2 or #3 from the Manipulation and Control section is due on Friday.
Your project is due on Monday, June 13th, 2011.
