Since the publication and success of Reading 44 in 1999 and Writing 44 in 2007, educators in North Vancouver have explored the idea of publishing, in a new electronic format, their collective knowledge of best practices and practical classroom strategies for literacy instruction. In 2012, the North Vancouver School District’s Learning Services team began to discuss the possibility of developing a literacy site that would reinforce the pedagogical foundations of our previous print publications while incorporating new ideas for comprehensive literacy instruction.
Since that time, several individuals have contributed their teaching expertise and leadership to the design and implementation of the Literacy 44 website.
I wish to thank everyone who contributed to the development of this new electronic resource, including the many elementary and secondary teachers who have piloted lessons in their classroom and provided us with feedback for ongoing improvements to the new resource. We hope that teachers will find value and inspiration in our work and that the Literacy 44 website will contribute to your students’ engagement and success in literacy development!
