Strategies/Skills Used
Reading Strategy 2: Predict what will be learned or what will happen.
Reading Strategy 5: Make mental pictures.
(1) Divide the book you will read to the class into four “chunks.” Have students fold a piece of paper in half lengthwise (hot dog fold) and then divide it into eight boxes. On the left side of the page, students will draw what has been read, and on the right, they will predict what will happen.
(2) Read the first chunk of the story. Ask students to sketch the most important part(s) of what you’ve read, and then have them draw, write or discuss what they think will happen next.
(3) Repeat the process three times until all the boxes on the page are filled.
