Paper Bag Presentation

It is important to provide opportunities to engage the students in reflective conversations about texts. This activity provides students with kinesthetic artifacts to reinforce comprehension.

Strategies/Skills Used

Reading Strategy 6: Connect what you read with what you already know.
Reading Strategy 7: Determine the most important ideas and events and the relationship between them.
Reading Strategy 11: Make inferences and draw conclusions.

(1) Have the students choose a number of artifacts that relate to a previously read story, and place them in a paper bag.

(2) Create a provocation with a number of artifacts from the text.

(3) Have the students present each artifact and explain its connection and relevance to the text and or in summarizing the plot.

(4) Invite students to recall, in classroom dialogue, the artifacts’ place and relevance in the story.
