Plot Profile – Story Graph

This activity encourages students to analyze the text, differentiate between important ideas, events and supporting details, and describe the relationship between these ideas.

Strategies/Skills Used

Reading Strategy 7: Determine the most important ideas and events and the relationship between them.
Reading Strategy 9: Identify and interpret literary elements in different genres.
Reading Strategy 10: Summarize what has been read.

(1) Have students use a line graph to illustrate the plot, with the main events numbered and the building tension noted in the increased height of the line.

(2) Have students work with a partner to make predictions about the plot.
