This reading activity allows students multiple opportunities to verbalize their thinking in relation to a selected piece of literature.

Reading Strategy 10: Summarize what has been read.
Reading Strategy 12: Reflect and respond.
(1) Select a fiction or non-fiction text.
(2) Pair students with partners A and B sitting together, and inform them that as the text is read they will have opportunities to discuss it.
(3) Read up to a pre-selected point and invite partner A to “say something” to partner B about what has been read. Then, have partner B “say something” to partner A about what has been read.
(4) Continue reading and encouraging “say something” exchanges throughout the text.
(5) Reflect on content and process.
