This post-reading activity helps students identify the main events of a story in a cycle format, showing how the end of the story returns to ideas presented at the beginning.

Reading Strategy 7: Determine the most important ideas and events and the relationship between them.
Reading Strategy 9: Identify and interpret literary elements in different genres.
Reading Strategy 10: Summarize what has been read.
(1) Have students identify the story’s main events in a circular story or one that involves a life cycle.
(2) Have them record these events on the Story Cycle Graphic Organizer. They can draw the events and/or describe them in phrases or sentences.
