This activity helps students outline the important elements of a story.The outline can be as simple as a beginning, middle and end or can evolve into more detailed descriptions of character, setting, problems, events and solutions.
Strategies/Skills Used
Reading Strategy 7: Determine the most important ideas and events and the relationship between them.
Reading Strategy 9: Identify and interpret literary elements in different genres.
Reading Strategy 10: Summarize what has been read.
(1) Read a story. Ask students to identify the main events. What happened first? What happened next?
(2) List the main events sequentially and complete the Graphic Organizer.
