Little Feelings Book

Little Feelings Books help capture students’ quotes and personal associations related to different emotions. These books offer opportunities for students to quickly share an emotional experience in the same powerful voice with they used to initially deliver the exclamation.

Strategies/Skills Used

Writing Skill 7: I use my personal style to make my writing unique.

teaching-the-activity-1(1) Choose an emotion (happiness, sadness, fear, surprise, anger, excitement, disgust) you’d like students to connect with.

(2) Create a simple little book (similar to the Little Miss/Mister books) with a suitable title to capture this emotion. Possible titles: A Bad Mood Book; Our Ouch Book; Sometimes I Feel Sad; I’m Sooo Excited!; Guess What?; It’s Almost My Birthday.

(3) Have students contribute a personal page to express their associations with the given emotion. You may have them create an illustration to go with their writing
