“I write so my thoughts flow smoothly and are easy to read.”

Good writers ensure that events proceed logically and are easy for the reader to follow. They experiment with the sequencing of their ideas, develop a broad repertoire of transitional words and phrases and include effective examples and details to support their purpose.

"What transitional words have you used to help your ideas flow smoothly?"

"Do all your ideas relate to the topic?"

Look for a clear beginning, middle and ending to the writing.

Look for the use of a variety of transitional words and phrases.

Look for evidence of thoughtful sequencing of relevant ideas and events.

Look for linking of events through beginning, middle and end.

Look for effective use of conjunctions and other transitional phrases (e.g. first, second, lastly, as well).
